"It's so bad that when my two year old sleeps in a little longer than usual in the morning, I have to keep checking on her to make sure she's still breathing." LOL - My daughter's 14 and I STILL do this. Glad your baby's okay, FF.

So the school calls me to ask if Zach is home sick...panic sets in...
by FreedomFrog ini sent him off to school this morning and i didn't walk all the way down where i normally do because he's 8 and gets a tad embarrassed that his mom still walks down with him.
so for the most part, i sit on my steps at my appartment trying to listen if i hear him scream.
well, i just watched "without a trace" were a child missed her bus and she was kidnapped and at the end of the story they found her dead.

"Stay alive, no matter what occurs! I WILL find you!" - Daniel Day-Lewis to Madeleine Stowe in Last of the Mohicans. I like to say it to my daughter whenever I drop her off somewhere... or even when she's just walking into the bathroom.

What Small Business Would You Start/Buy If You Had The Capital?

I'd open a small (two screens at the most), independent/art film theater/lounge in my neighborhood. There's an abandoned Art Deco building down the street that would be perfect for it. Concessions would be reasonably priced and you'd be able to take your drinks from the lounge to the theater.
And children under the age of 10 or so would not be allowed into any R-rated movie, whether they're with their parents or not. I like my movies with sex, violence and rock 'n' roll and I hate it when they're ruined by idiot parents who bring their babies and toddlers to "Sin City" and the like.
OR, I'd open a vegetarian drive-thru restaurant.

Would you feel safe traveling to the Middle East as a tourist?
by free2beme inone of my dreams is to one day making to cairo egypt and see the great pyramids.

I just read an article in the October Vanity Fair about tourism and terrorism in Egypt. The Sharm al Sheikh area has been completely separated from the rest of the country in an attempt to keep the tourists safe. Other than the pyramids, you'll have a tough time seeing any other parts of Egypt. I tried to find an online link, but it looks like the story's only available if you buy the magazine.

I never realized you lost your wife due to the blood issue. I'm sorry.
Love the giant Caddy. How did people park back then? I won't even drive my friend's SUV because I'm afraid I'll hit something important.

Most of the quotations that resonate with me tend toward the dark side.
It is a fearsome thing to love what death can touch. - from a tombstone
Just because you have stopped sinking doesn't mean you're not still underwater. - Amy Hempel
I believe that 99% of what anyone does can effectively be postponed. - Amy Hempel

The Tapestry of Life
by cruzanheart ini'm almost 51. lately i've "seen" things differently.
i don't know if i can express it properly, but i thought this forum might be a good place to start.. .
when i was in art class in 10th grade, i had a wonderful teacher, mrs. brown, who once upon a lazy warm day, showed us how to start a picture with a center: circle, square, whatever.

The energy I expend at work adds to the energy of the globe as it goes about its business.
That's a good sentence. I need to hear things like that as I develop fast food advertising for an already obese country.
I understand and relate to what you're saying. When I was younger, I always had to have something "big" to look forward to: a vacation, a concert, etc. Now I get excited about the so-called little things, but really it's the little things that make a life.
I would also like to add, Nina, that you are an excellent punctuator.
The above has been brought to you by Smirnoff Vodka and 360 (Whole Foods generic brand) tonic with a splash of Italian Pink Lemonade.

A confession of Love, of finding Home
by daystar ingrowing up, i had, like we all do, archtypes regarding the way relationships are supposed to work, what a marriage is supposed to look like, and we use these archtypes as guides to our behavior, the sort of people who we find attractive, etc.. according to jung, there are also "built-in" archtypes that arise from the collective unconscious.
he found that men and women have in their psyches archtypes of the opposite sex, anima and animus.. the anima is the personification of all feminine psychological tendencies within a man, the archetypal feminine symbolism within a man's unconscious.

I am so very in love with this woman as to make every single relationship I've ever had seem as child's crushes by comparison. I feel my poetic soul awakened and heart soar.
Beautiful. Well done you (both).
I know Billy Joel isn't what he used to be, but your thread title reminds me of a lyric from one of his first albums (back when he sounded like the Beatles). "You're my castle, you're my cabin and my instant pleasure dome. I need you in my house cause you're my home."
